Ingredients

1 Egg white

1 tsp Corn-flour

100g Caster sugar

125g Dessicated coconut

Rice paper or baking parchment (you can not use greaseproof paper as they will stick)!

A few blanched almonds or glace cherries to top with.

Oven Temperature Gas4/350F/175C

Method

Firstly wash your hands and put on your chef’s apron and hat.

Get an adult to turn the oven on to the correct temperature.

  1. Whisk the egg white (not the yolk) until frothy but not stiff.
  2. Add the corn flour, caster sugar and coconut, stir until all ingredients are mixed.
  3. Place small spoonfuls of the mixture onto the rice paper or baking parchment, leaving plenty of room between each one for spreading.
  4. If you are using almonds for the top, you can place one in the middle of each macaroon now before cooking.  If using cherries wait until the macaroons are cooked and then add half a cherry to each
  5. (This must be supervised by an adult)  Bake the macaroons in the oven for about 20 mins or until lightly browned.
  6. Cool and remove from parchment, or if using rice paper just pull off the excess paper, the rest which is still on the bottom of the macaroon is edible.
